The City of Lavandou has signed the regional charter for characterful beaches, which promotes the management of Posidonia benches.
The values of the charter
TOGETHER, WE WANT:
1 → Mediterranean beaches recognized for their unique, natural and authentic character
2 → Mediterranean beaches managed with respect and particular attention to the fauna and flora that inhabit them
3 → Beaches that enhance our Mediterranean cultural identity
4 → That the seaside economy takes into account the ecosystem services provided by posidonia
5 → Healthy beaches that reflect the good quality of our bathing waters and marine ecosystems
6 → Preserve our beaches for future generations and promote biodiversity
7 → Conserve the beauty and unique character of our Mediterranean coastal landscapes
8 → Friendly beaches, free of access to all, without waste and lightly artificialized
9 → Beaches whose ecological functionalities are respected in order to develop the resilience of our coasts in the face of climate change
The objectives of the charter
TOGETHER, WE COMMIT TO:
1 → Promote the signing of the Charter in our entourage and our networks
2 → Participate in the development of knowledge concerning the beach and bench ecosystem and more generally Mediterranean coastal ecosystems
3 → Raise awareness, inform, educate, or train beach stakeholders, so as to better understand and protect Mediterranean coastal benches and ecosystems
4 → Change our individual and collective behaviors and practices with regard to the presence of Posidonia benches on the beaches, so as to constantly act in
respect for the natural sites that welcome us
5 → Promote and disseminate good practices in beach management and development that respect the natural nature of the sites, and encourage the sharing of experiences
6 → Participate in the promotion of nature-based solutions and the development of an ecosystem approach in the development of our Mediterranean coasts
7 → Respect regional, national and European regulations concerning the herbarium and the Posidonia bench
The Municipality's commitments
1 → Finance and/or implement management techniques and methods that respect Posidonia beds on beaches and coastal ecosystems
2 → Do not use heavy machines, especially in sensitive areas
3 → Clean the beaches manually to remove only the waste and preserve the
sea leashes
4 →Develop and implement information and awareness actions concerning the posidonia bench for all beach users
5 → Develop scientific research actions and improve knowledge of the functioning of coastal ecosystems
6 → Include in the specifications for beach concession contracts a specific clause concerning the management of the Posidonia bench
