The Hermione at anchor in Lavandou Bay on April 24, 2018. Unmissable event this spring 2018 in Lavandou as part of a major trip to the Mediterranean, in partnership with the International Organization of La Francophonie.

On the program: nautical parade, conference, sketch workshop, exhibitions.

A little bit of history

On March 21, 1780, the young major general de La Fayette boarded the Hermione. He goes to fight alongside American insurgents who are fighting for their independence. He disembarked in Boston after 38 days of crossing and joined General Washington to announce the imminent arrival of French reinforcements. Eighteen months later, the American insurgents, joined by La Fayette, won decisive victories in the Chesapeake Bay at sea, then at Yorktown on land with the support of French troops led by Rochambeau and de Grasse.

As a tribute to La Fayette and to preserve the memory of this event, the Hermione-La Fayette Association embarked in 1997 on a formidable adventure, the identical reconstruction of the frigate. A real technical feat for a project which lasted 17 years and allowed the ship to repeat the voyage to La Fayette more than two centuries later, in 2015.

Today, the Hermione sets sail again, heading south towards the major ports of the
Mediterranean.
