Description

DEPARTURE / ARRIVAL: Croix d’Anselme car park

MARKING: orange

Take the narrow path marked in orange through the oak forest, following the attachment bars.

Go up slightly, walking through the heather and exit on your left to take the tarmac road.

After 400 m, take the DFCI des “Pounches” track (with a white barrier), which goes on your right. Continue this main track which climbs through the pine and holm oak forest. You can observe the chestnut groves still in use. Picking is prohibited.

At the next intersection, continue straight on the main track, following the orange markings. Take advantage of this wide track to trot or gallop and admire the landscape of the Moors.

When you arrive on the ridges, observe Notre-Dame des Anges on your left, then start to descend towards the Lambert plateau. Observe a maritime pine plantation on your right and a eucalyptus forest on your left.
The Lambert plateau was reforested following the 1990 fire, by INRA, on an experimental basis, using imported species (maritime pine, eucalyptus or even Douglas fir, conifers that can reach 100 m in height).

Start the descent on the Lambert plateau towards the large meadow where the menhirs stand.

Take the track which goes down to the asphalt road. Then turn right and pass in front of the forest house.

On your left is the Lamberts field. You can discover the megalithic site of the Lambert plateau where 2 menhirs, each approximately 3 m high, dating from the Neolithic period, stand. Fascinating and mysterious at the same time, they are the highest in Provence and are classified as historic monuments. As you walk along the field of menhirs, observe a cedar forest on your right. At the end of this path, you will find attachment bars to take a break with your mounts.

Return on your way following the track on the left, at the directional arrow post. You continue your hike, leaving the field of menhirs on your left and taking a small descent through a forest of oaks and chestnut trees.

At the intersection, turn on your right, at the hunters' cabin. Pass this cabin and continue your way on a pretty sunny track where you can trot and gallop. On your left you will find Notre-Dame des Anges.

Arriving at the next intersection, go straight on the main path following the signs.

At the next directional arrow post, take the direction on your left, following the Valescure track.

Go down towards the Verne river which you cross. Take on your left along the D214 for 200 m, then take the small parallel path, on the left, for 800 m. You have arrived at the departure car park, at the Croix d'Anselme.
